Yong Sport Academy of Bamenda have maintained their 13-year stay in the Elite one championship after defeating last year’s Vice champion, Eding Sport de la Lekie 2-0 in the relegation playoff battle in Bonamoussadi-Douala.

Franck Eric Embe and Ako Calistus saved YOSA from dropping, scoring two goals in the second segment as substitutes, to end Eding’s seven year stay on top.

Rudolf Koukisang had the opportunity to put the yellow submarines ahead via a free kick but had it go over the bar.

YOSA gained promotion to the top flight championship in 2009 and since then they have maintained their stay.

Goalkeeper Chrysantus Bessong’s poor outing almost cost YOSA a goal, fortunately defense man Acha Lovis was timely and smart enough to stop David Theophane’s attempt at goal.

Chem Hebert almost got everyone on their feet when he shot at goal but hit the post instead and on several occasions he squandered opportunities to get the goals as he was a total shadow of himself.

YOSA pressed harder during the last minutes of the first segment, after managing to dominate this half of the game from start, yet no goals produced.

Allowed to play the first 15 minutes into the second half, Chem failed to impress coach Ndikum Blaise still and he was brought out for Calistus Anjeh, who proved more offensive.

Lovis had a very impressive game and for the second time he made a crucial save to deny Eding a chance after goalkeeper Chrysantus was nowhere to be found.

Former UMS of Loum striker, Franck Eric Embe made YOSA’s efforts pay off at the 72nd minute when he netted a smart goal, not up to five minutes he was brought in for Rudolph.

Ako Calistus from regional league side last season, Rainbow FC, made it two for the Academicians in added time, sending in a beautiful shot 30 yards from the box to seal victory and send Eding Sport to the second tier championship.

Coach Bonaventure Djonkep and his boys stay in the top flight championship have come to an end since 2016, after much struggle this season to maintain their stay.
