Cameroon’s newly crowned African champions have returned home to a heroine’s welcome after winning the country’s first Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title.

The Indomitable Lionesses arrived at Yaoundé-Nsimalen International Airport, where they were greeted by a huge crowd of jubilant supporters eager to celebrate the historic achievement.

From the airport, the champions were given a memorable reception along the streets of Yaoundé. Supporters lined the roads, waving the Cameroonian flag, singing and cheering as the team’s convoy made its way through the capital.

The celebrations continued all the way to the FECAFOOT headquarters in Warda, where a special protocol ceremony was organised in honour of the champions.

The players proudly presented the WAFCON trophy to the President of the Cameroon Football Federation, Samuel Eto’o, marking an important moment in the celebrations.

For Cameroon, the homecoming was about more than simply celebrating a tournament victory.

It was the celebration of a team that had finally overcome years of disappointment.

The Lionesses had reached the WAFCON final on several occasions in the past, only to suffer defeat when the trophy was within reach. Those repeated failures had become part of the story of Cameroon women’s football.

But this generation changed the narrative.

After beating Malawi 3-0 in the final, Cameroon finally lifted the trophy and secured the country’s first WAFCON title.

The victory sparked celebrations across the country, and the reception in Yaoundé showed just how much the achievement means to Cameroonians.

From Nsimalen Airport to the streets of the capital and finally to FECAFOOT headquarters, the champions were celebrated as heroines who had delivered a historic moment for the nation.

After years of waiting, the trophy is finally home. Cameroon are African champions.
