The 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League qualifying tournament for the Central African Football Federations’ Union (UNIFFAC) has been postponed, with the competition now expected to kick off on August 29 instead of the initially scheduled August 22.

The postponement affects the zonal preliminary tournament through which the UNIFFAC representative for the CAF Women’s Champions League will be determined.

UNIFFAC’s women’s Champions League qualifiers have become an important pathway for clubs from Central Africa to reach CAF’s premier women’s club competition. In the previous edition, Cameroon’s FC Ebolowa represented the country and finished as runners-up behind Equatorial Guinea’s 15 de Agosto, who secured the UNIFFAC ticket.

The latest change means participating clubs will have additional time to complete preparations before the competition gets underway on August 29. The postponement also gives teams more time to finalise their squads, logistics and preparations for what is expected to be another competitive zonal race.

The UNIFFAC qualifiers traditionally bring together the champions of women’s domestic competitions from Central African countries, with the winner earning the right to represent the zone at the CAF Women’s Champions League final tournament.

The importance of the competition has grown considerably since CAF introduced the Women’s Champions League in 2021. The continental competition features the winners of the various CAF zonal qualifiers alongside the defending champions and the host nation’s representative.

For Cameroon, attention will be focused on the country’s representative and whether the eventual champions can improve on recent performances and secure Central Africa’s place on the continental stage.

Kick442.com has closely followed the UNIFFAC Women’s Champions League qualifiers in recent editions, including the 2024 campaign when Lékie Football Filles represented Cameroon in Kinshasa and the 2025 tournament in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea.

With the opening date now shifted by one week, the race for the UNIFFAC ticket will begin on August 29, with participating clubs expected to battle for the sole qualification place available to the Central African zone.
