Former Cameroon Intermediate Lions defender Alfred Meyong has taken on a new role at Canon Sportif de Yaoundé after being appointed the club’s psychological trainer.
Meyong, 35, was appointed to the position on 27 August 2026 by Canon’s Director General, Aloys Etoundi, following his decision to step away from active football.
The experienced defender returned to Canon three years ago after a spell with Stade Renard of Melong and went on to complete three consecutive seasons with the Mekok Me Ngonda.
Known for his versatility, discipline and willingness to work for the team, Meyong now moves from the dressing room to a position focused on the mental and psychological preparation of Canon’s players.
His appointment also brings valuable experience from beyond the club level. Meyong previously played for Eding Sport, while his performances earned him a place in Cameroon’s Intermediate Lions squad for the 2020 African Nations Championship (CHAN).
The new role allows Meyong to remain closely involved with the club while using his experience as a professional footballer to support players through the psychological demands of competition.
Canon Sportif de Yaoundé will hope his understanding of the dressing room and experience at the highest levels of domestic football can contribute to the club’s sporting ambitions.
