Cameroon boosted their World Cup qualification hopes with a composed 2–0 victory over Mauritius in Saint-Pierre.

Second-half goals from Nicolas Moumi Ngamaleu and a stoppage-time finish by Bryan Mbeumo sealed three vital points for Marc Brys’ side, who moved within touching distance of Group D leaders Cape Verde who dropped two points following their 3-3 draw away to Libya.

Professional display from the Lions

The Indomitable Lions dominated possession throughout but found Mauritius resilient in the first half.
Chances were limited until the 56th minute when Ngamaleu punished a defensive lapse to fire Cameroon ahead.

As Mauritius pressed for an equaliser, spaces opened up on the counter. In stoppage time, substitute Bryan Mbeumo finished off a flowing move involving Christian Bassogog to seal the win.

Key moments

  • 29’ – Nkoudou’s effort tipped over by Chiotti.
  • 56’ – GOAL: Ngamaleu strikes to give Cameroon the lead.
  • 90+2’ – GOAL: Mbeumo finishes a rapid counter-attack for 2–0.
  • FT: Mauritius 0–2 Cameroon.

Reaction

Marc Brys, Cameroon coach: “We played intelligently in the first half. The game could have been more vertical, but we had control. We deserved this victory. It’s good for morale and for our position in the group. And there are no injuries, so we’re happy in the end.”

André Onana, Cameroon winning captain: “We came here to win. It was important for us to win this match. I’m happy with the work of the group. It was difficult. We faced a team that defended very deep. It wasn’t really easy for us to develop our game, but we did it. We won. Now, we’re thinking about the next match […] There are good days and bad days, moments when you win and moments when you lose. Unfortunately, the last match [against Cape Verde] didn’t help us. The past can’t be changed. We have a very good team. We’ll give our best, hoping to qualify.”

Tony Francois, Mauritius coach: “Our boys gave their all, but Cameroon’s strength and precision were too much in the end.”

Tactical overview

Cameroon lined up in a 4-2-3-1 with Onana in goal and Choupo-Moting leading the attack.
Brys’ tactical tweaks paid off — the introduction of Mbeumo and Bassogog gave the side width and directness late on.
Mauritius defended in numbers with a compact 4-4-2, relying heavily on counter-attacks that never quite materialised.

Short Analysis

Cameroon’s display in Saint-Pierre was exactly what Marc Brys needed after recent setbacks.
The Indomitable Lions looked disciplined, focused, and far more cohesive than in their loss to Cape Verde.
Their patience paid off, with Ngamaleu providing spark and Mbeumo’s late goal restoring belief in the squad’s attacking depth.

With one match left against Angola in Yaoundé, Cameroon remain firmly in contention for top spot — and a direct ticket to the 2026 World Cup.
