Lekié FF end Cameroon’s Champions League wait

Lekié Football Filles have ended Cameroon’s long wait for representation at the final stage of the CAF Women’s Champions League, breaking new ground in the country’s women’s club football history.

The Cameroonian champions secured their historic ticket after a goalless draw against FA M’Sichana of Congo in their final UNIFFAC qualifying fixture in Yaoundé on Friday.

It was a result that carried far greater significance than the scoreline suggested.

The point lifted Lekié FF to the top of the Central African qualifying tournament and confirmed their place in the final phase of the CAF Women’s Champions League—a feat no Cameroonian club had achieved since the competition was launched.

Cameroon has finally broken through.

Lekié FF finished the qualifying campaign unbeaten, collecting five points from three matches. They scored eight goals and conceded just one, producing the consistency and defensive resilience needed to navigate the regional qualifiers.

Their achievement is a landmark moment for a country whose women’s national team has long been regarded among Africa’s strongest, but whose clubs have struggled to translate that international pedigree into continental success.

That gap has now been bridged by Lekié FF.

The club’s breakthrough comes only weeks after Cameroon’s historic triumph at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, adding another major achievement to what has been an extraordinary period for the country’s women’s football.

Lekié FF’s qualification therefore arrives at a symbolic moment. While the Indomitable Lionesses have been making history at international level, the club game has now produced its own landmark achievement.

The club has grown rapidly in recent years and established itself as one of the leading forces in Cameroonian women’s football. Its success in the UNIFFAC qualifiers is now taking that domestic dominance onto the continental stage.

The challenge ahead will be considerably tougher.

At the final tournament, Lekié FF will come up against some of Africa’s most established women’s clubs. For the Cameroonian champions, however, simply reaching that stage already represents a historic breakthrough.

The wait is over.
