A new chapter in grassroots football has begun in the South West Region of Cameroon with the unveiling of the pioneer executive of the Cameroon Seven-a-Side Football Association (ACF7). The establishment of this professional structure marks a significant step toward expanding the fast-growing 7-a-side football format in the region, backed by a leadership team blending administrative experience, technical know-how, and media professionalism.
A Pioneer Team Built for Progress
At the forefront of this movement is Karl Njomo Mokake, President of ISOHSA, who assumes leadership of the ACF7 South West bureau. Mokake’s reputation as an accomplished administrator precedes him — under his guidance, ISOHSA clinched the 2023 National Interpools title and reached the 2024 Cameroon Cup semifinals, achievements that underline his ability to build competitive success from the grassroots.
He is assisted by Philemon Mbale, the Vice President, whose background as a well-travelled and meticulous sports administrator adds strategic depth to the team. Mbale’s experience with several South West clubs and participation in continental football development programmes make him an ideal deputy for the region’s seven-a-side football vision.
Adding technical and educational strength is Madam Nketta Emma, the Regional Director. A seasoned sports and physical education teacher, she brings academic rigour and competitive insight, having guided school teams to multiple FENASCO titles and served as an assistant referee at both regional and national levels.
The administrative core is anchored by Sylvester Esowe, the new Secretary General, who previously served under Dr. Ndive Thomas Molungu in the South West football bureau — a period still remembered for its efficiency and structural progress. Oversight of discipline and regulations is guaranteed by Aloysius Awa, a respected former member of the Fecafoot Homologation and Disciplinary Commission, known for his commitment to fairness and professional standards.
Communication and visibility are in safe hands with Giovanni Wanneh, a FIFA Football for Schools Development Communicator, and Oni Ladonnette, an award-winning journalist and STV presenter, whose media expertise ensures the association’s activities gain the exposure they deserve.
Financial accountability and competition management are overseen by Tabe Tabe (Head of Competition), His Royal Highness Embola Charles (Auditor), and Joakine Ashu (Second Auditor) — a trio of experienced figures whose oversight guarantees transparency and effective governance.
Together, this pioneer executive embodies the region’s ambition to make seven-a-side football a model of modern administration, competition, and community engagement.
The Game and Its Vision
Seven-a-side football (7v7) is a streamlined format featuring seven players per team, including a goalkeeper, contested on a smaller pitch with reduced goal sizes. The shorter, high-tempo matches encourage skillful play, quick transitions, and increased player involvement.
The format typically eliminates the offside rule, promotes direct attacking football, and allows unlimited rolling substitutions — keeping intensity high while preventing fatigue. Disciplinary rules mirror the 11-a-side game, though slide tackles are often restricted for safety.
With lower infrastructure demands and affordability, the format offers both recreational opportunities and a training platform for technical player development — much like futsal.
Setting the Tone for the Future
The installation of this pioneer executive marks more than an administrative beginning; it signals a new era of football culture in the South West. The blend of tested leadership, technical discipline, and community inclusiveness positions the region as a national reference point for seven-a-side football development.
If the structure’s promise is fulfilled, this model could soon inspire similar initiatives across Cameroon — fostering a modern, inclusive, and competitive football landscape that nurtures future stars from local communities.
