- Canon Yaoundé appoints Jules Abah Onana as the new head coach following the dismissal of Joseph Atangana due to poor results.
- Onana, with his extensive experience in Cameroonian football, faces the daunting task of reviving Kpa Kum’s fortunes in the ongoing playoffs.
- His immediate goal is to improve the team’s standings and lead a successful campaign in the Cameroon Cup
In a decisive move by the administration of Canon sports Yaoundé, Jules Abah Onana has been named the new head coach, succeeding sick Joseph Atangana.
A communique sent out on Sunday April 7,2024 confirmed the move seen by diehards as an effective attempt to steady the almost sinking ship.
“Canon Sportif de Yaoundé engaged in the decisive phase of the UP Play-offs of the 2024 Elite One championship is at its worst. Despite the administrative, logistical and technical efforts provided by the club’s top management, the results are very disappointing.
“A deleterious climate within the professional team and managerial failings are the primary factors of these sporting inadequacies. In order to find the path to performance for the rest of these Play-offs up and the upcoming Cameroon Cup, decisions are necessary.
“The chairman of the board of directors (PCA) Benoît Placide MEVOUA has therefore carried out an administrative and technical reorganization,” the press release read.
The change in leadership comes at a critical juncture for this ten times league winners, who are still in contention for the championship title but have struggled in the playoffs, currently languishing at the bottom of the standings with just two points from two draws and two losses.
Onana, a seasoned technician with stints at Tonerre, Colombe, Académie Nyom 2 and a host of others has been tasked to turn the tide for the beleaguered team in Douala.
His familiarity with the Cameroonian championship dynamics and his previous coaching experiences are seen as valuable assets that could steer the Kpa Kum boys back on course.
The team’s aspirations for an eleventh championship title have been severely dented, but hope renewed with the arrival of Onana.
His first major test will be to galvanize the squad, instill a winning mentality, and navigate the remainder of the playoffs with strategic acumen.
Additionally, Onana’s leadership will be crucial in Canon’s pursuit of success in the Cameroon Cup, setting the stage for what could be a remarkable turnaround for the club under his guidance.
