Ghana secured their place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after a narrow 1–0 victory over Comoros in Kumasi, thanks to a second-half goal from Mohammed Kudus.

The Tottenham midfielder proved decisive once again, firing home in the 47th minute after a clever build-up involving Jordan Ayew. His composed finish sent the Accra Sports Stadium into raptures and ensured the Black Stars booked their ticket to North America.

Despite the slender scoreline, Otto Addo’s side dominated much of the contest, creating several chances through Kudus and Ayew, while Comoros relied on counter-attacks to stay in the game. Ghana’s defence, marshalled by Mohammed Salisu and Alidu Seidu, held firm to keep a clean sheet.

The result sees Ghana finish top of Group I with 25 points, ahead of Mali and Madagascar, confirming their qualification for a fifth World Cup finals.

It marks redemption for the Black Stars, who had lost to Comoros earlier in the campaign. Kudus, now Ghana’s leading scorer in the qualifiers, continues to underline his status as the team’s talisman.

Head coach Otto Addo hailed his team’s resilience after the match:

> “It wasn’t easy, but we stayed focused. Qualifying means everything to the players and the people of Ghana,” he said.

Comoros, who had impressed with a strong campaign, finish fourth in the group but can take pride in having pushed one of Africa’s giants all the way.

Ghana now joins Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco and Egypt among Africa’s confirmed representatives at the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
