The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed that Morocco will host the 2026 FIFA World Cup African playoffs, scheduled to take place from 13 to 16 November 2025.

The mini-tournament will feature the four best second-placed teams from the African qualification groups, competing for one final continental slot in the Intercontinental Playoffs.

CAF said the format will include two semi-finals and a final, with fixtures determined by the October 2025 FIFA World Ranking. The highest-ranked team will face the fourth, while the second will play the third.

Matches ending in a draw after normal time will go to extra time and penalties if needed to determine the winner.

The eventual champion of the playoff tournament will represent Africa in the Intercontinental Playoffs, scheduled for March 2026, where six teams from around the world will battle for the remaining World Cup places in North America.

So far, Bolivia have secured qualification for the Intercontinental Playoffs from South America (CONMEBOL), while New Caledonia are confirmed to represent Oceania (OFC). Representatives from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and the remaining confederations are yet to be determined.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico, marking the first edition of the tournament to feature 48 teams.
