Fans of the indomitable Lions are in shock and indignation after Cameroon-eligible defender Evan Ndicka Kouassi opted to pledge his international allegiance to the Cote D’Ivoire, going by information from the West African nation this week.

Ndicka, 24, was listed among Cote D’Ivoire players retained by French coach Jean-Louis Gasset for their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier away to the Chipolopolo of Zambia.

This after the tenacious defender born of an Ivorian mother and a Cameroonian father opted to play for his mother’s country.

The inclusion of Ndicka and eventual appearance for the 2015 African champions will end the hopes of having him represent Cameroon.

Fans have expressed their disappointment about losing the player, with some recommending more actions from the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT).

“Losing a top talent of our origin to France is understandable, but not to the Cote D’Ivoire,” a fan wrote.

“We need to do more to make playing for the Lions more attractive to any good player with Cameroon connection,” another voiced.

“We prefered Nkoulou over Ndicka, Wow!,” another fan wrote on Twitter.

The recruitment of the 2022 UEFA Europa League winner is a massive feat for the 2023 AFCON host, months before the start of the tournament.

The disappointment of losing Cameroon-eligible talents lately has been a call for concern.

The likes of Yousouffa Moukoko, Sacha Boey, William Saliba, Amadou Onana and Anthony Elanga have all turned down the opportunity to represent the five-time champions of Africa despite being approached by present football authorities.
