Nyengue Makes History as Eighth Cameroon Player to Score on Senior Debut

David Roy Nyengue has written his name into Cameroon football history after scoring on his senior international debut in the Indomitable Lions’ 3-1 victory over Comoros in Garoua.

The 21-year-old midfielder marked his first appearance for Cameroon with a 39th-minute header, converting Danny Namaso’s corner to give the hosts the lead in their opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

Nyengue’s goal places him among a select group of Cameroonian players to have scored on their senior international debut. The group includes Landry Nguemo, Fabrice Olinga, Clinton Njie, Frantz Pangop, Kaïba Djawal, Olivier Kemen and Florent Batoum.

Nguemo opened the sequence in the modern era when he scored on his Cameroon debut against Rwanda in 2006. Olinga followed in 2012 against Cape Verde, while Njie found the net against DR Congo on his first appearance in 2014.

Pangop, Djawal, Kemen and Batoum subsequently achieved the feat, before Nyengue became the latest member of the group with his goal against Comoros.

His landmark moment came during a convincing Cameroon performance in Garoua. Bryan Mbeumo doubled the advantage three minutes after half-time, although Comoros quickly responded through Warmed Omari. Danny Namaso eventually restored Cameroon’s two-goal advantage in the 81st minute to complete the 3-1 victory.

Beyond the historical milestone, Nyengue’s debut gives coach David Pagou another midfield option as Cameroon begin a new AFCON qualifying campaign. The youngster combined his defensive responsibilities with a willingness to attack set pieces, ultimately producing one of the defining moments of the match.

Cameroon will now turn their attention to Congo, with the Indomitable Lions scheduled to travel to Brazzaville on September 29 for their second Group G qualifier.

For Nyengue, it was a dream introduction: a first cap, a first goal and a first international victory.
