The Tunisian Football Federation has reportedly dismissed Sabri Lamouchi following an emergency post-match review after the 5-1 defeat to Sweden in their 2026 FIFA World Cup opener. Officials are said to have deemed the performance unacceptable at this level, with reports from Tunisian media and outlets such as Kick442 describing the decision as swift and decisive.

Former Tunisia head coach Mondher Kebaier has been appointed interim manager and will take immediate charge of the Carthage Eagles for the remainder of their World Cup campaign. His return comes at a crucial moment, with the federation turning to a familiar figure in an effort to stabilise the squad and restore discipline after a chaotic start to the tournament.

Lamouchi’s tenure ends after a difficult spell in charge, during which he oversaw five matches, recording one win, one draw and three defeats. Tunisia also struggled in front of goal and defensively, scoring just once in that run while conceding 11 goals, a record that ultimately accelerated pressure on his position.

The defeat to Sweden proved decisive, with Tunisia outclassed in all areas of the pitch. Defensive errors, lack of organisation and an inability to cope with Sweden’s attacking intensity combined to produce a heavy loss that triggered immediate action from the federation.

Tunisia will now regroup under Kebaier as they attempt to salvage their World Cup campaign. Attention turns to their remaining group fixtures, where an immediate response will be required to avoid an early exit from the tournament.
