Darlin Yongwa joins Norwich City on four-year deal

Cameroon international Darlin Yongwa has completed a move to English Championship side Norwich City after leaving French club FC Lorient at the end of his contract.

The 25-year-old left-back has signed a four-year deal with the Canaries, keeping him at Carrow Road until the summer of 2030 as Norwich strengthen their squad ahead of the new Championship campaign.

Yongwa arrives in England after an impressive spell in France, where he made 97 appearances for Lorient across four seasons, including 23 Ligue 1 outings during the 2025/26 campaign. Before joining Lorient in 2022, the Douala-born defender spent three seasons with Chamois Niortais, making 73 appearances after beginning his European career in 2019.

Speaking after completing the transfer, Yongwa expressed his delight at fulfilling a long-held ambition.

“I’m very happy. I’ve always dreamed of playing in England, and Norwich City is a historic club. I’m thankful for the opportunity and excited by the project from the coach and sporting director. I come with a lot of ambition and will do everything I can to help the team achieve its goals.”

Norwich sporting director Ben Knapper welcomed the Cameroonian, describing him as an important addition to the squad.

“Darlin is a very accomplished player. His experience in Ligue 1 and with the Cameroon national team will give us a big boost. To land a player of this calibre is significant, and we’re excited to see the impact he can make.”

Yongwa has earned 14 senior caps for the Indomitable Lions since making his international debut against Uzbekistan in September 2022. He scored his first international goal against Zambia in January 2024 and has established himself as one of Cameroon’s leading options at left-back.

The move represents a new chapter in the career of the former EFBC academy graduate, who now faces the challenge of helping Norwich City push for promotion back to the Premier League while continuing to cement his place in the Cameroon national team.
