A blockbuster quarter-final showdown is on the cards at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), with the Super Falcons of Nigeria set to face the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon for a place in the last four.
The eagerly anticipated encounter will take place on Sunday, August 9, at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca, with kick-off scheduled for 18:00 WAT (19:00 Cameroon time).
Cameroon head into the tie full of confidence after sealing top spot in Group D with two consecutive victories. The Lionesses defeated Mali and Ghana to secure early qualification for the knockout stage and will round off their group campaign against Cabo Verde on Thursday with first place already guaranteed.
Under head coach Valentine Nguene, Cameroon have impressed with disciplined performances and attacking efficiency, with Marie Gisèle Ngah Manga emerging as one of the tournament’s standout players after her goals in the group stage.
Nigeria also progressed to the quarter-finals after another strong campaign and will once again rely on their blend of experience and quality as they pursue a record-extending WAFCON title.
The fixture renews one of African women’s football’s biggest rivalries. The two nations have produced several memorable encounters over the years, including the 2016 WAFCON final in Yaoundé, where Nigeria edged Cameroon 1-0 to claim the continental crown.
With both sides boasting rich histories and ambitions of lifting the trophy, Sunday’s clash is expected to be one of the standout matches of the tournament. The winner will advance to the semi-finals, while the loser will see their WAFCON 2026 journey come to an end.
