Yanga beat City to equal Arsenal’s record

Tanzanian football giants, Young Africans SC (Yanga), cut the cake to mark their 49 games unbeaten match record celebrations in the Tanzanian Premier League.

Young Africans SC recorded a 2-0 win against Mbeya City at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam on Saturday and made their fans to cheers their new record equaling the run set by English giants, Arsenal in 2004.

Arsenal’s 49 games unbeaten run started in May 2003 when they beat Southampton 6-1 at Highbury, ended in October 2004 after losing 2-0 to Manchester United.

The last time Young Africans SC lost a Premier League match was April 25, 2020 the second half of 2020/21 season gainst Azam FC with a goal by Prince Dube, at Benjamin Mkapa stadium.

Yanga SC

In the past 49 Premier League matches, Yanga SC has recorded 37 wins, scoring 85 goals, conceding 16 goals, as well as setting a record of winning in 34 matches without conceding single goal.

In Africa, Yanga ranked the third behind the Ivory Coast based club Asec Mimosa at the first place who played 108 games without losing in a row of six years from 1989 to 1994.

Esperance de Tunis are in second place after playing 85 games from 1997 to 2001 when they were denied victory in the 86th match after breaking the rule of playing an unauthorized player in their 6-0 victory against Dejrba.

African giants Al Ahly from Egypt are in fourth position after having a record of 45 games unbeaten matches in Egyptian Premier League.
