Defending champions Wydad Casablanca will face Al Ahly SC in an all-North Africa 2022/23 CAF Champions League final following their away goal triumph away to Mamelodi Sundowns this Saturday afternoon in Pretoria.

Former Indomitable Lions of Cameroon fitness coach Sven Vanderbroek inspired the Moroccan giants to a dramatic 2-2 draw at the Loftus Versfeld, a result which amounted to Downs shock elimination from the competition.

Both sides improved offensively as the game went on. The goalless and wasteful first-half was followed by a four-goal second segment.

Midfielder Themba Zwane, put the host ahead after 50 minutes, provoking wild celebrations in the full capacity stadium.

El Amloud equalized for the visitors in the 72nd minute but Peter Shalulile restored the lead with his seventh Champions League goal of the season.

Just when the Masandawa’s thought they had done enough to reach another final, Mothobi Mvala put the ball past his own keeper to make it 2-2.

Coach Rulani Mokwena’s Sundowns gave their all to restore the lead, but it wasn’t to be.

The game finished 2-2, handing Sven a ticket to the CAF Champions League final just in his third game as head coach of Wydad Casablanca and less than two weeks after he was appointed.

Wydad AC will face Al Ahly in the final as it was last season. Ahly SC got to the final on Friday after concluding a resounding 4-0 aggregate win against Esperance of Tunis.

Wydad are chasing their fourth CAF Champions League crown while record winners Al Ahly are after their 11th crown.
