Cameroon giants Cotonsport of Garoua will receive 423 Millions FCFA from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) as prize money for their run in the 2022/23 Champions League.

CAF issued a release on Friday, May 19 explaining the breakdown of cash distribution for all participants in their primary and secondary club competitions this season.

According to the release, CAF has made a 40% increase in prize for clubs that reached the group stage of the Champions League and the Confederation Cup.

Therefore, Cotonsport who finished fourth in their Champions League group are entitled to $700 000 as part of the Confederation’s efforts to reward teams more as its president Dr Patrice Motsepe, a few months ago.

The CAF moves takes the prize money for the Champions League winner from $2.5 Millions to $4Millions while the winner of the Confederation Cup gets half of what the winner of the primary competition is entitled to.

There’s a $750 0000 increase in the winner’s prize money in the secondary competition.

The move by CAF is expected to render these competitions more attractive as the greater rewards will push teams to invest more.

Earlier this year Coton recieved over 100 millions FCFA from FIFA as compensation for having Marou Souaibou with the rest of the Cameroon squad during the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

The club has also made significant cash from sales lately, and in doing they won every domestic competition last season.
