Morocco midfielder Sofyan Amrabat has declared that the Atlas Lions are dreaming of winning the FIFA World Cup, insisting that their historic run at Qatar 2022 has given the squad the belief and confidence needed to compete with the world’s elite.

The 29-year-old stressed that commitment and sacrifice remain at the heart of Morocco’s ambitions.

“Our dream is to win the World Cup. If you play with your heart and leave everything on the pitch, anything becomes possible,” Amrabat said.

Amrabat reflected on Morocco’s remarkable journey at the 2022 tournament, where they became the first African and Arab nation to reach the semi-finals. He admitted that many outsiders viewed the achievement as a surprise, but believes the experience changed the mentality within the squad forever.

“The 2022 World Cup was a surprise to many, but what we experienced that year gave us the strength and courage we needed to believe we can achieve great things today,” he added.

The former Manchester United midfielder also explained that expectations around the national team have evolved, with players now embracing the responsibility that comes with representing one of Africa’s leading football nations.

“We now take full responsibility on the pitch, and the coach is no longer surprised by our performance; we have accepted this new reality,” Amrabat said.

Morocco enter the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Group C alongside Brazil, Scotland and Haiti. Their campaign begins with a blockbuster clash against Brazil on June 13 before facing Scotland on June 19 and concluding the group stage against Haiti on June 24.

Having made history in Qatar four years ago, the Atlas Lions will be aiming to prove that their 2022 success was no fluke and once again carry the hopes of Africa deep into the tournament.
