  • Richmond Nji scored his second brace of the season in the 2-0 win against YOSA
  • He becomes the first player to score two goals in two different games this season
  • He is the league’s top scorer so far with seven goals to his credit

Lethal finisher, Richmond Nji scored twice as Victoria United FC of Limbe edged YOSA of Bamenda in a tensed Anglo-Saxon derby game that marked the start of match day eight of the 2023/24 MTN Elite One championship.

Victoria United beat YOSA 2-0 to end a five match winless run and pick up only their second victory of the season, with the only other being from the 2-1 win against Fauve Azur Elite in match day one of the championship, thus leaving YOSA with just one win from seven games this season.

Former Foncha Street FC of Bamenda forward, Richmond, scored in either half to ensure OPOPO as they are popularly known came back from the MTN Arena in Mbouda with maximum points.

The potential Cameroon international had scored five goals in the build up to the latest round of matches and was pegged with Jules Armand Kooh of Astres as they second joint top scorer in the division, behind Leonel Ateba Christian Mbida of Dynamo of Douala.

Victoria United absorbed pressure from their hosts as Nchindo John Bosco and co took the game to the Limbe side but were not efficient in the final third as it was against Fauve Azur Elite last time out.

Against the run of play, Victoria United FC scored the opener in the 36th minute through Richmond.

Though the hosts were close to the leveler before the interval, Victoria United kept their lead till the pause.

Coach Ndikum Blaise made a number of replacements upon resumption all in his efforts to find their way back into the game, but his efforts proved futile as Victoria instead doubled their advantage 14 minutes from time.

Richmond took advantage of a defensive blunder in the heart of the YOSA backline to round the keeper and score his side’s second of the afternoon and his seventh goal of the season.

Though YOSA players protested in anticipation of a refereeing call for an infringement in the build up to the goal, Ngah Willy pointed to the center to approve the 2-0 state of the game.

It finished 2-0 in favor of visitors Victoria United FC who take their points tally to eight from eight MTN Elite One championship games this season while YOSA remained pegged on five points from seven games.

Richmond is the league’s top scorer after eight rounds of matches, though chasing Jules Armand Kooh of Astre and Hamit Seini of Union Sportive of Douala could react to that this Sunday.
