Zambia’s senior women’s national team had to rely on a late goal to secure a place in the third and final round of the Paris 2024 Olympics Qualifiers on Wednesday.

The Southern African side forced Ghana to a 3-3 draw in Ndola to make it to the third round.

The first leg of the encounter ended 1-0 in favour of the Copper Queens in Ghana.

Barbra Banda gave the host the best start with the opening goal in the 11th minute.

The Black Queens responded with the equaliser ten minutes later from Gifty Assifuah.

Five minutes into the second half, the West African side went ahead for the first time thanks to Doris Boaduwaa.

Kabange Mupopo leveled the scoreline for the host before Azumah Bugri restored Ghana’s lead.

With the game approaching extra time, a foul at the edge of the box by Ghana’s Jennifer Cudjoe resulted in a free kick after she was sent off for her second bookable offenses in the additional minutes of the second half.

With the Ghanaian wall not well organised, Banda capitalised on that to score the resulting free-kick into the bottom right corner.

The Copper Queens secured a 4-3 win on aggregate and will face either Morocco or Tunisia in the final round.
