NYG: Team Bayelsa Wins Nine Gold in Day Five as the Battle for Supremacy Gets Tougher

Team Bayelsa on Wednesday continued its impressive outing in the ongoing National Youth Games in Asaba Delta State.

Bayelsa State won nine gold, four silver and six bronze medals as the push to dethrone Delta and Lagos State who are currently first and second gets intense after day five of the games.

A breakdown of the total medals won by team Bayelsa indicates that team Bayelsa won five gold in the Chess event, one gold in gymnastics and bronze medal while Scrabble settled for Silver, Swimming also gave Bayelsa two silver and one bronze.

Darts surprisingly gave Bayelsa the first gold in the boys 501 doubles against host Delta State in a keenly contested game while girls settled for bronze.

Taekwondo and Para Athletics also recorded medals for the team, Para Athletics won silver for Bayelsa as Taekwondo went home with bronze.

Kokowa and Wrestling also brought smiles to the faces of the contingents, Kokowa won one gold while Wrestling got one gold and a bronze capped team Bayelsa’s overall performance after day five of the National Youth Games.

The performance of Team Bayelsa on Day five shows that Bayelsa has already surpassed the 2021 overall medal tally of 16 Gold, 14 Silver and 16 Bronze with 18 Gold medals already in the kitty for Bayelsa as of the time of filing this report.
