  • Cameroonian referee Ngwa Blaise Yuven makes a comeback in CAF Champions League action
  • He has previously officiated at every major African tournament, from youth to senior level

Cameroonian referee Ngwa Blaise Yuven has made a successful return to continental football, taking charge of Pyramids FC’s CAF Champions League 3-0 win against APR FC last Sunday in Cairo, culminating in a 5-0 aggregate score.

Goals from Mostafa Abdel Raouf “Zico,” Ahmed Atef “Qatta,” and Mohamed Hamdy sealed a comfortable night for the reigning African champions, who were rarely troubled by the visitors at the Air Defense Stadium.

Commanding the Game

Blaise, who is widely regarded as one of Africa’s top referees, oversaw the game alongside compatriots Elvis Noupoue and Abdel Mefire Abdou.

But while the home side’s performance caught the eye, the evening also marked a significant milestone for the Cameroonian official — his first CAF Interclub assignment in over a year.

Return After a Difficult Spell

Blaise had been out of international duty for more than 12 months following administrative challenges within the Cameroonian Football Federation.

His return has been welcomed by observers across the continent, who view it as a positive sign for African refereeing standards.

A top Refereeing personnel told kick442.com that Blaise’s reappearance “underscores the importance of experience and professionalism at the highest level of African football”.

Experience at the Top Level

The 43-year-old has an impressive résumé, having officiated at the Under-17 and Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations, the Senior AFCON, the African Nations Championship (CHAN), the CAF Champions League, World Cup qualifiers, and the Cameroon Cup final.

His assured performance in Cairo is expected to open the door for further appointments in both CAF and FIFA competitions.

A Welcome Return

For many across the continent, Blaise’s comeback represents a small but important boost for the image of African refereeing.

If his form continues, fans may soon see him handling some of the biggest fixtures in African football once again.
