Ngong Neville has urged his teammates to remain ‘calm’ as the season reaches a thrilling conclusion this Sunday May 21 with a crunch encounter against defending champions Cotonsport of Garoua.

Canon bough their way back into the Elite One title race after the 2-0 win against Gazelle FA in match day 2 of the MTN Elite One championship play-off and could win their first elague title ion 21 years this aft6ernoon if they beat Cotonsport and other results are favorable.

Ahead of the 5:30PM fixture at the Bepanda Omnisport stadium Ngong whose returned into the Canon starting XI inspired the match day two win says KpaKum have qualities but needs a particular aspect to get it right against Cotonsport.

The prospect of becoming just the first team to win the title since is thrilling but Ngong has warned Canon mates not to get ahead of themselves. “To keep the group calm and not get too nervous even if Cotonsport is ahead of us,” he replied when asked what’s required now for Canon.

“It’s a game every three or four days so there’s not a lot of time to recover so we have to try to make the most out of it. We know in the final stages of the season we need every single player. It doesn’t matter who’s playing, it’s about the group and the support for each other.

“We always have to stay in every situation – take things minute by minute. We have to concentrate on what we have to do and the job as a team in the best possible way and with that group we can be very successful. If we can keep the spirits in that way, it can be an amazing end to the season for us.

“The most important thing is the attitude and the confidence to trust in your abilities and to know when you do things properly and do what you’re able to do you are going to be on track sooner or later. It’s exactly what we’ve done in the last few weeks and it’s why we are winning a lot of games.”

Ngong has been key to Canon’s title aspirations as a regular since the arrival of coach Souleymanou Aboubakar who is targeting a second title in the past season, having won the title through the play-offs at the end of the 2020/21 season as head coach of Cotonsport.

To be champions of this exciting season, Canon needs to beat Cotonsport and hope Bamboutos gets less than a win against Gazelle FA.
