Vincent Aboubakar once again showed why experience still matters, scoring the winning goal as Bodrum FK came from behind to beat Bandırmaspor 2-1 on Saturday.
Bodrum had been made to work for the three points after Tosin Kehinde put the visitors ahead early in the second half. But when the game needed a player to take responsibility, Aboubakar stepped forward.
The Cameroon striker first turned provider, setting up Ege Bilsel for Bodrum’s equaliser in the 68th minute. Just three minutes later, he was celebrating himself, calmly converting Ruben Providence’s assist to complete the comeback.
It was the sort of contribution that has become familiar from the former Indomitable Lions captain. Aboubakar did not need a dozen chances to influence the game. He stayed involved, waited for his moment and made it count when it arrived.
The goal was another boost to what has been a productive start to the season for the veteran forward. He now has four league goals, while Saturday’s assist took his direct contributions to six in seven appearances.
More importantly, his intervention turned what looked like a disappointing afternoon for Bodrum into three points.
At 34, Aboubakar continues to show that he still has plenty to offer. His experience, movement and eye for goal remain valuable weapons, and Bodrum are benefiting from having a striker who knows how to handle moments like this.
For Cameroon supporters, it was another reminder of the quality Aboubakar still possesses. When Bodrum needed someone to change the game, their veteran Cameroon star answered the call.
And this time, he did not just score — he helped win the three points.
