Day 9 matches to end the first phase of the MTN Elite One championship has come to an end just a day after football lovers started mourning former Bamboutos of Mbouda attacker Eugene Patrice Ejenguele who died in the early hours of Friday November 24, 2023, in a health facility in Douala, Cameroon’s economic capital.

Eugene Patrice Ejenguele it should be noted scored the lone goal for Bamboutos of Mbouda during their Super Cup victory against Coton Sports of Garoua.

Shockingly, the Cameroon Football Federation, FECAFOOT, and the Transitional Body in charge of organizing the MTN Elite One and two failed to recognize the death player in elite one and two matches played a day and two after his death.

Despite failing to observe a minute of silence for Ejenguele in matches this weekend, FECAFOOT had on November 24, 2023, on its social media handles paid tribute to the player and extended their condolences to the family of the player. Also, during the top match of this matchday between Dynamo and Union, tribute was paid to the player.

Bamboutos of Mbouda also paid tribute to him before their 2#1 victory against Astres of Douala.

Despite the fact this this was done, it was supposed to be a general policy in all elite one matches this matchday.

Eugene Patrice Ejenguele suffered from fracture vetebrae after an accident in Douala in August 2023 when he was returning from an inter-quarter football match.

Matches of the 9th and last playing day of the MTN Elite One championship took place on Saturday 25 and Sunday 25, November 2023.
