Apejes Mfou have secured their return to the MTN Elite One Championship after defeating AS Fortuna 2-0 in the Elite One relegation playoff on Wednesday at the Omnisports Stadium Annex in Yaoundé.
The match was effectively decided before the interval, with Armel Ntsama breaking the deadlock in the 35th minute before Gabriel Ekoume doubled Apejes’ advantage seven minutes later.
The two first-half goals proved enough as Apejes produced a disciplined defensive display after the break to seal promotion back to Cameroon’s top flight for the first time since their relegation three years ago.
The result marks the end of Apejes’ three-year spell in Elite Two and completes a successful promotion campaign. For AS Fortuna, it signals the end of a remarkable 12-year stay in the MTN Elite One Championship as they drop to the second tier.
