Cameroon coach Marc Brys says his side is “mentally prepared” and fully focused on securing a vital win when they face Angola this evening in a key 2026 World Cup qualifier at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaoundé.
The Indomitable Lions are second in Group D with 18 points, two behind leaders Cape Verde, who host Eswatini at the same time. Cameroon must win and hope Cape Verde fail to claim victory in Praia to boost their chances of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup in North America.
“It’s football — you can never say 100% who will win,” Brys told reporters. “We’re prepared mentally. The pitch is not great, maybe that’s a disadvantage, but we’re not looking for excuses.”
Brys will be without several key regulars for this decisive encounter, including Nicolas Moumi Ngamaleu, Michael Ngadeu-Ngadjui, Enzo Boyomo and Moumie Ngamaleu. Their absences mean the Belgian coach must reshuffle his defence and attack, with options such as Nouhou Tolo, Jean-Charles Castelletto, Samuel Kotto or Carlos Baleba likely to feature at the back.
Despite the setbacks, Brys insists his team must approach the game with confidence and positivity.
“When you’re a coach or a player, you can’t think negatively,” he said. “We have the means to win this match.”
A victory in Yaoundé would move Cameroon to 21 points and could see them leapfrog Cape Verde at the top of the group, depending on results elsewhere. That would put them alongside Ghana, Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia and Algeria — nations that have already secured their tickets to the 2026 World Cup.
Kick-off is at 17:00 local time (16:00 GMT) at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaoundé.
