Nigeria’s Football Federation (NFF) has confirmed that Justine Madugu will continue as head coach of the Super Falcons, extending his contract to cover the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) and the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The announcement comes as a major boost for the reigning African champions, following a period of rebuilding under Madugu’s leadership. The former Bayelsa Queens coach, who initially took charge in 2024, has earned plaudits for steadying the team and restoring its competitive edge on the continental stage.
Madugu guided Nigeria through a convincing qualification campaign, ensuring the Super Falcons’ place at next year’s WAFCON, and will now oversee their preparations for another tilt at global success in 2027.
“We’re very pleased with the progress under Coach Madugu,” an NFF statement read. “His work ethic, technical discipline, and connection with the players reflect the values we want for the national team.”
Under his guidance, a new generation of Super Falcons stars — blending home-based talents with experienced internationals — has emerged, promising a bright future for Africa’s most successful women’s football side.
Madugu’s new contract is expected to provide the stability needed as Nigeria aim for a record-extending 12th WAFCON crown and a deeper run at the next Women’s World Cup.
Justine Madugu is one of Nigeria’s most respected women’s football tacticians, renowned for his calm authority and commitment to player development. Before taking charge of the Super Falcons, he guided Bayelsa Queens and Nigeria’s U20 women’s team, the Falconets, earning recognition for nurturing emerging talent and implementing a disciplined, possession-based style.
Since stepping up to the senior national team in 2024, Madugu has overseen a smooth transition phase, blending experienced internationals with rising home-based stars.
His renewed mandate now positions him to lead Nigeria’s next generation into the 2026 WAFCON and 2027 World Cup campaigns with renewed confidence and continuity.
