Former Indomitable Lion of Cameroon defender Bill Tchato Mbiayi Jackson, has voiced reasons for his son’s absence in Cameroon’s final squad to face Namibia for the 2023 AFCON qualifiers.

According to Bill, Enzo Tchato has got an injury, reason why he was dropped after making the provisional squad of Rigobert Song Bahanag.

“…He was supposed to be called up but he was injured that is why he is not part of the team now” Bill said during an interview on RSI.

He equally talked about Enzo’s absence from Cameroon’s 2022 FIFA World Cup squad.

“If he wasn’t at the World Cup, It’s because it was a little too early for him.”

The 20-year-old defender has never made an appearance for Cameroon’s senior team, but has represented the nation at the U20 category.

He was part of the junior Lons team that reached the quarter-final of the 2021 U20 African Cup of Nations in Mauritania and was one of the revelations of the tournament.

Bill, like his son Enzo played for Montpellier before going on to win the AFCON with his country in 2002.

Enzo was born in France and the central defense man has always plied his trade in that Nation before chosing to represent Cameroon. His youth career was at Montpellier and till date, he still represents the club at the senior category.

He made his professional debut for Montpellier as a substitute in a 2–1 Ligue 1 defeat at home to Brest on April 3 and then signed his first professional contract with the club on May 23, 2022.

However, Enzo has managed to make just three appearances and scored a goal for Montpellier this 2022/23 football season in the Ligue 1.
