Ndanga Mundi: The Man, The Myth, and the Destroyer of Football Projects

In Cameroonian football, the name Ndanga Mundi has become synonymous with controversy. For months, players, clubs, and fans have raised eyebrows at his decisions, which many believe have tilted the balance of crucial matches. Far from fading into the background, his influence continues to grow, cementing his reputation as “the destroyer of football projects.”

Months ago during the regular season, he officiated the match between Gazelle FA and Dynamo de Douala in Garoua. That fixture is still remembered for its chaos. Dynamo were awarded two penalties, both of which they missed. As Gazelle’s goalkeeper put on a heroic performance, Ndanga Mundi abruptly ended the match before full time, leaving fans and analysts convinced he had arrived in Garoua on a mission.

His track record is filled with similar episodes. From the controversial elimination of Elecsport to disputed fixtures in both Elite One and Elite Two, Ndanga has been at the center of some of the most questionable refereeing calls in recent memory. His impossible workload only fuels suspicions: in June, he directed five matches in just six days across three different cities, Douala, Limbe, and Yaoundé, decisions that would test the limits of even the most impartial referee.

He achieved this astonishing feat of officiating five matches in just six days, across three different cities. On June 12, he was in Douala for Avion FC vs Bafmeng United. On June 14, he moved to Limbe for Elecsport vs Legends. The very next day, June 15, he was in Yaoundé for Canon vs Aigle Moungo, followed by AS Fortuna vs PWD on June 16. Barely 24 hours later, on June 17, he was back in Limbe to oversee Victoria United vs Union.

Now, in the ongoing 2025 National Interpools, Ndanga Mundi has returned once more, again charged with missions that many say favor certain teams. His involvement reached a boiling point on the fifth day of the tournament, during the clash between Kumba City FC and Mintack FC. A string of controversial calls in favor of Kumba City infuriated Mintack supporters, who stormed the pitch in anger. The referee and his assistants were violently attacked, and security forces had to intervene to rescue them. The game ended prematurely, adding yet another dark chapter to both Ndanga’s career and the tournament itself.

What should have been a festival of football and a showcase of the country’s emerging talent has once again been overshadowed by refereeing decisions that dominate headlines for all the wrong reasons. To some, Ndanga Mundi is simply a referee caught in the chaos of Cameroonian football politics. To others, he is a deliberate instrument, the man, the myth, and the destroyer of football projects.

As the Interpools continue, one question remains unanswered: is Ndanga Mundi just an overworked official, or the face of a deeper rot within the system? Whatever the truth, his shadow looms large over Cameroon’s footballing future.
