Coach Mafoua Raphael and captain Fatoumata Ndiaye of AC Colombe have tagged their club’s last group game of the 2025 UNIFFAC Women’s CAF Champions League preliminaries in Malabo as a final though both sides have been eliminated from the title race going into the fixture.

Speaking during the traditional pre-match conference on Sunday coach Raphael expressed fresh determination to finally secure their first three points of the competition.

“I am taking this game as a ‘small final’. A small final because neither of the two teams has won even a point so far so we have set an objective to win for the honour of our country. So we will give our all to win this game for the honour of our country. The entire delegation had set an objective to win this game and at least have the three points to show for from our time here.

“A win will certainly leave a good image of our time here. This match is very important for us because it will give us all the motivation to go back home and fix our problems, then come back stronger.

“This tournament has given us a lesson and we want to finish on a high so that we have the motivation to implement what we learned so that next time we will come back as a better team.

“Sincerely l have regrets today. All the efforts we made didn’t yield fruits because of the organisational issues we had but what is most important now is finishing strong to use that as a motivation for next time out.”

Skipper Ndiaye Fatimatou joined the trainer in his posture of qualifying the game as a final.

“Tomorrow’s game provides a chance to make amends. As the coach already mentioned, we need to give our all and show our fans we didn’t come here for a safari visit. We have had our issues but this game provides an opportunity to finish on a high for ourselves and also make our fans and compatriots happy,” Ndiaye stated.

Ndiaye was subbed off in the first half of their 0-2 defeat to FC Ebolowa in their last outing and has been on treatment of a shoulder injury in the past two days but remains determined to make amends.

Coach Mafoua wasn’t categoric on her availability for the game against Electpsort.

“Like other officials l wont tell you if she will be available or not but l want to sincerely thank the team doctors of M’Sichana for the efforts they have made to help us recover our injured players and assure our fans we will have a competitive team against Electsport.”

AC Colombe will be hoping to pick up their first point of the competition on Monday though Electsport representatives in the pre-match conference also expressed the same desire and ambitions.

The 1pm kick off at the Estadio de Malabo will be a nail-bitting one even if the two sides are just playing for pride and honour of their badge.
