A historic feat for Cameroonian women’s football! By defeating Egypt’s FC Masar this Saturday (2-1), Lekié Football Filles secured their spot in the CAF Women’s Champions League semi-finals in their very first appearance in the competition. It is a standout performance both on the pitch and on the financial front.
A victory sealed at the Suez Canal Stadium
History is in the making. Following a tough start to the group stage — featuring a 0-0 draw against FUS Rabat and a narrow 1-2 loss to South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns —, Stéphane Ndzana’s squad delivered when it mattered most.
This Saturday, at the Suez Canal Stadium in Ismailia, Egypt, the 2025 Cameroonian champions held their nerve against tournament hosts FC Masar. The ever-dangerous Brenda Tabe stunned the opposition by scoring in the 1st minute, before Biyon Ngon extended the lead in the 59th minute. Despite El Mahdy pulling one back for the Egyptian side, Lekié FF held firm to claim a historic 2-1 victory.
Cameroon breaks a glass ceiling
This marks a historic first for a Cameroonian club. Up until now, no representative from the country had managed to advance beyond the group stage or UNIFFAC zonal qualifiers to reach the final four of this prestigious continental tournament. Led by experienced figures like Nchout Ajara, Meyong Charlène and backed by a solid team dynamic, Lekié FF is proudly representing Cameroon as they join Africa’s top four teams.
A major financial boost
Beyond the sporting glory, reaching the semi-finals brings a significant financial reward for the club founded by the late Nkoa Luc. By advancing to the Final Four, Lekié FF is guaranteed a minimum prize money of $300,000 (around 180,000,000 FCFA) based on the CAF prize distribution:
* 🥇 Winner: $600,000
* 🥈 Runner-up: $400,000
* 🥉 3rd place: $350,000
* 4th place (Guaranteed minimum for Lekié FF): $300,000
What’s next?
Finishing second in their group, Nchout Ajara and her teammates will learn their semi-final opponents this Sunday at the conclusion of the remaining group matches.
Stéphane Ndzana’s players are now just two matches away from a historic continental title.
