Royal Moroccan Football Federation president Fouzi Lekjaa has confirmed that the Hassan II Stadium in Benslimane province will host the final of the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
Lekjaa made the revelation while speaking in Bouznika, bringing an end to much of the speculation surrounding the venue for the tournament’s showpiece match.
The ambitious Hassan II Stadium project is being developed in Benslimane, north of Casablanca, as Morocco prepares to co-host the 2030 World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal.
According to Lekjaa, the decision to locate the project in Benslimane was made under the direction of King Mohammed VI, highlighting the importance attached to the province and its development.
Morocco dreaming of a home World Cup final
While the stadium represents a major infrastructure project, Lekjaa believes its significance could ultimately be defined by what happens on the pitch.
With Morocco preparing to host part of the 2030 tournament, the FRMF president is hoping the Atlas Lions can go all the way and contest the final on home soil.
Lekjaa recalled Morocco’s historic run at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, when the Atlas Lions became the first African nation to reach the semi-finals.
Morocco eventually lost 2-0 to France, ending their unprecedented campaign just two matches away from lifting the trophy.
For Lekjaa, however, the achievement also changed expectations.
He recalled that after Morocco reached the semi-finals, the ultimate ambition was no longer simply to make history, but to reach the final and compete for the World Cup.
That dream could now have an extraordinary setting in 2030.
Hassan II Stadium set for historic stage
The Hassan II Stadium is expected to become one of the centrepieces of Morocco’s preparations for the tournament.
Its selection as the venue for the final would give Morocco the opportunity to host the biggest match in world football and potentially see the Atlas Lions compete for the title in front of their own supporters.
The 2030 World Cup will be jointly hosted by Morocco, Spain and Portugal, with Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay also set to stage centenary celebration matches.
For Morocco, the tournament is being presented as more than a sporting event.
Lekjaa has stressed the potential of the World Cup to accelerate development, strengthen infrastructure and improve living conditions in host communities.
But for Moroccan football supporters, the ultimate dream is already taking shape: seeing the Atlas Lions walk onto the pitch at the Hassan II Stadium in Benslimane for the 2030 FIFA World Cup final.
