  • Eto’o says Cameroon’s minister of Sports and Physical education is a problem he is comfortable with and he has asked his lawyers to sue CAF
  • The record man says CAF tarnished his image by revealing they were investigating him on the recommendation of stakeholders
  • He has also promised to reveal his candidate for the presidential election in Cameroon at some point in time next year

President Samuel Eto’o Fils of the Cameroon football federation (FECAFOOT) has revealed he is having a difficult working relationship with the country’s minister of Sports and Physical education (MINSEP) but it’s not a problem.

In an explosive interview aired on France 24 this Wednesday, February 28 Eto’o also declared that he had instructed his lawyers to sue the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for corruption claims they made against his person late last year.

CAF had announced they were opening an investigation against Samuel Eto’o after a cast of Cameroonian football stakeholders reported the FECAFOOT president to the continental body citing that he had been involved in a series of wrongdoings.

“I was never questioned about those accusations. I instructed my lawyers to sue CAF. It was too easy to tarnish everything I had built during these years in football. CAF released a statement very early. This is unacceptable.”

This declaration from Eto’o adds CAF to the long list of institutions the firebrand FECAFOOT president is at loggerheads with.

The four-time African player of the year highlighted that most of his recent woes are linked to political interferences from influential figures in Cameroon who believe he’s nursing presidential ambitions ahead of next year’s elections.

“Most of the problems I have in Cameroon is because there are people who think I want to be president. It is true that some years ago I went to Liberia for the swearing of George Weah as president of the country. It was good to see a former footballer take up such a position. I supported President Paul Biya in 2018, I have always supported him. Next year I will pronounce myself regarding my support for the elections.”

Eto’o’s demeanor as a leader hasn’t helped what first shadowed as an exciting project when the idea of becoming FECAFOOT president first came to fusion in 2021.

Wars against FIFA, CAF, state ministers and even a football federation’s government have never paved the way for a successful management of any country’s football. On the contrary it has fragilized the concerned and its football ambitions as it has been the case of Cameroon in the past two years.
