Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) president Samuel Eto’o had to be restrained after a heated exchange with an angry supporter during Monday’s World Cup qualifier between Cameroon  and Angola at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaoundé.

The game ended 0-0 — a result that leaves Cameroon’s qualification hopes uncertain — and tensions in the stands quickly boiled over. One furious fan shouted from the presidential tribune: “He has to get out of here! Idiot! It’s because of him that we didn’t qualify!”

Eyewitnesses say Eto’o reacted angrily and attempted to confront the supporter before being held back by security personnel and officials nearby. The confrontation added to the frustration of a disappointing night for the Indomitable Lions.

Eto’o, a former Barcelona and Inter Milan striker, has faced increasing criticism over the management of the national team, including disputes with coach Marc Brys and the federation’s refusal to enlist Joachim Manunga on the crew to be on the technical bench despite numerous calls.

This is not the first time the FECAFOOT boss has been involved in a public altercation. During the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Eto’o was filmed retaliating after being confronted by a YouTuber outside a stadium — an incident that went viral worldwide.

The stalemate against Angola means Cameroon must now rely on other results to determine whether they can still reach the 2026 FIFA World Cup playoffs.
