Cameroon international Arnaud Djoum, the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations champion, has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 35.
In an emotional message shared on his Instagram account, Djoum reflected on his illustrious 19-year career, which saw him play for several clubs across Europe, including FC Brussels, Anderlecht, Roda JC, Lech Poznań, Heart of Midlothian, Akhisarspor, and Al-Raed.
Throughout his career, Djoum accumulated an impressive 466 matches, scoring 36 goals and providing 25 assists.
He also had the privilege of representing Cameroon on the international stage, playing 28 matches for the Indomitable Lions and winning the Africa Cup of Nations in 2017.
Djoum’s journey was marked by unforgettable moments, and he expressed gratitude to his family, loved ones, agents, coaches, and clubs that supported him throughout his journey.
As he hangs up his boots, Djoum looks forward to a new chapter in his life. He plans to stay involved in football, exploring roles in guidance, mentorship, and coaching. “My love for the game is still alive; it just takes a new form,” he wrote. “I’m preparing to give back, guide, mentor, and coach.
