The Confederation of African Football (CAF) Disciplinary Committees has suspended the head coach of the Moroccan senior men’s national team.
Walid Regragui has been suspended for four matches following the post-match incidents during the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Côte d’Ivoire 2023 fixture between Morocco and the Democratic Republic of Congo on Sunday 21 January 2024.
With the suspension, Regagui who won the 2023 CAF Coach of the Year award will be out for at least two games at AFCON 2023 if his team progresses beyond the Round of 16.
Starting with the Round of 16 game between Morocco and South Africa, the North African side will be without their coach on the sidelines.
Two of these matches are suspended for one (1) year.
CAF also imposed a fine of USD 5,000 on Regragui.
Other decisions taken by the CAF Disciplinary Committee include a fine of USD 20,000 on the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football and USD 20,000 on the Fédération Congolaise de Football Association.
A further fine of USD 10,000 on the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football was imposed for the use of smoke bombs by its supporters during the match. USD 5,000 of this amount is suspended.
