Jalel Kadri has left his role as head coach of the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia following their goalless draw against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa this Wednesday evening and eventual exit from the 34th edition of Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Jalel who was under pressure going into their last group stage game against South Africa failed to inspire his team to a win, thus amounting to a rare group stage exit for the 2004 champions.

Jalil, 52, took charge of his country’s national team in 2022 and helped them reach the quarter-final of the previous AFCON plus the 2022 FIFA World Cup finals in Qatar.

The group stage exit at the 2022 FIFA World Cup plus struggles in the AFCON 2023 qualifiers and the eventual tournament amounted to the disappointment of many.

Jalil joins Tom Saintfiet, Djamel Belmadi, Jean-Louis Gasset, Adel Amrouchi and co on the list of coaches that entered the tournament but are no longer in charge.
