2023 Francophonie Games: Cameroon Excels greatly in Athletics, wins over Four Gold medals

Cameroon’s representatives at the 2023 Francophonie games in Kinshasa, DR Congo led by standard bearer Emmanuel Alobwede Esseme, have been excelling in some key sport domains of the competition.

After the 1-0 victory of the U20 Lions against Niger in their second outing following a zero all draw to Lebanon on day one, the other Cameroon competitors are equally mounting the podium in grand style.

Having proved to be the fastest man in the country, Alobwede won gold in the 100 meters sport in Kinshasa, finishing in 10.4 seconds.

The 29-year-old athlete put up a world class performance to challenge other word best performers in this domain and now considered the third world best in this sports.

By winning the gold medal, he has already booked his place in the Paris 2024 Olympics and World Athletics championship.

Cameroonian wrestler, Abossolo Cedric grabbed the gold medal in the men’s 92kg freestyle wrestling category. He defeated Algeria’s Abderrahmane DJERMANE in the final.

Meanwhile Norrah Lemongo Nkoulou with a throw of 14:99 meters, won gold and the silver medal went to fellow compatriot Monie Nora Atim, who threw 14.73 meters in the weight throw.

Appolinaire Yinra secured the gold medal in the 7.99m long jump.

Team Cameroon(U23 Lionesses) have qualified for the semi finals of the women’s basketball by beating Benin 82-42 this Tuesday, August 1.

Cameroon’s Athletes are in great form and making the country proud by achieving positive results in DR Congo before the Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Prof Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, who is out there to cheer the country’s flag bearers.

The country’s team has as at now, won over 12 medals in the different sports domain.

Francophonie is a multi-sport event that brings together athletes from french speaking countries. The 9th edition of the Games is staged in Kinshasa, DRC and is expected to run from July 28 to August 6.
