Five Nigerian players win Kazakhstan women’s league title

It is a rarity for five players from the same country to get to play for the same club.

The case of these five Nigerian women’s football players is peculiar.

When Igbonoba Victoria Titilayo, Ogunsanwo Opeyemi Anuoluwapo, Ikediuba Peace,
Salisu Anuoluwapo Grace and Kuku Oluwadamilola left the shores of Nigeria for Kazakhstan to join BIIK Shymkent (also known as BIIK Kazygurt), little did they know that the league title awaited them within a short period.

With Salisu and Kuku tasting action in the UEFA Women’s Champions League (UWCL) Qualifiers, a taste of similar feeling was their target which they now have with the league title confirming their participation in the Champions League next season.

BIIK Shymkent won the title with 48 points at the end of the season ahead of Tomiris-Turan with 29 points.

The win meant UEFA Women’s Champions League (UWCL) qualification for the 2024/2025 season.

Former Nigeria junior international, Salisu won the league title with Bayelsa Queens in Nigeria before moving to the Kazakhstani side.

She took to her X (formerly Twitter) handle to celebrate the league title with fans as she celebrates her league triumph with Nigerian teammates.

“Proud moments as I won the Kazakhstan league title with BIIK Shymkent (Kazygurt).
First season and first title with the club.
Another UEFA Women’s Champions League qualification for us next season.” She posted.
