Cameroon football legend Ajara Nchout Njoya has begun training with Lekié FC, attracting significant media attention as the club continues to build its ambitious project ahead of the 2026/2027 Guinness Super League season.
The experienced forward’s arrival drew considerable interest from journalists and football followers, reflecting her status as one of the most recognisable figures in Cameroonian women’s football. After more than a decade competing abroad, Ajara has returned to the domestic scene with a wealth of experience and a reputation built through performances for both club and country.
Head coach Stéphane Ndzana says he is counting on Ajara’s experience as he prepares his team for the new campaign. The former Indomitable Lionesses captain has featured at four Africa Women’s Cup of Nations tournaments and two FIFA Women’s World Cups, in 2015 and 2019, giving her extensive experience of competing at the highest level of the women’s game.
Her club career has also taken her across several countries, including Russia, the United States, Sweden, Norway, Spain, Italy and Saudi Arabia. She has played for FC Energy Voronezh and WFC Rossiyanka in Russia, Western New York Flash in the United States, and Swedish sides Sundsvalls and Sandviken. In Norway, she represented Vålerenga and Brann, before moving to Atlético Madrid and Inter Milan in Spain and Italy respectively, and later joining Saudi Arabian club Al Qadsiah. Her experience in these different footballing environments adds considerable value to Lekié’s ambitions.
Beyond her attacking qualities, Ajara is expected to bring leadership and professionalism to the dressing room, helping younger players develop while contributing to the club’s pursuit of domestic honours. Ndzana will hope to benefit from her understanding of the demands of elite competition as Lekié seek to maintain their position among Cameroon’s leading women’s teams.
Her arrival is part of a wider recruitment drive that has also brought Cameroon international defender Claudia Manadja Dabda to the club. The former Al Hilal captain adds further international pedigree to a project that is increasingly attracting established names in Cameroonian women’s football.
With Ajara and Dabda among the headline additions, Lekié are signalling their determination to compete for major honours at home and make their mark in African football. The club’s ambitions include making an impact in the CAF Women’s Champions League, where experience and squad depth will be essential.
For Ajara, the new chapter offers an opportunity to bring her international experience closer to home and contribute to the development of women’s football in Cameroon. For Ndzana, her arrival provides an experienced leader whose knowledge of the international game could prove crucial as Lekié pursue their objectives for the coming season.
