Les Astre of Douala have resumed preparations for the upcoming football season, this September 4, 2023 at the Camrail stadium in Cite Sic.

The opening program was geared towards scouting new players for the Brazilians of Bepanda as the club is fondly called.

New gaffer, Agbor Ernest watched with keen interest, while Assistant coach Clement Nzeko trained with Captain Rodrigue Tchatchaou and 21 others.

“We started today, the 4th of September with the selection of new players and preparation of the season with old players. That’s why we had two groups. The old players were working with the physical condition coach, while I and other colleagues continued with the selection of new players,”

“We have played so many games, we want to see tactically how good these new players are, tomorrow we will continue. We will play more games and go in with technical work and see how we can integrate them into the team,”
explains Agbor Ernest.

With the 2023/2024 Elite football season set to run in a one pool format, Coach Agbor is excited to build a squad of 36 players.

“I believe we will play about 18 teams this season, that’s about 38 matches, meaning we have to get at least 36 players to play in the championship. The championship with Cup games will require players, we need about 35 to 36 players,” Coach Ernest emphasized.

With no major league title since their promotion into Cameroon’s top flight competition, this 2021 cup of Cameroon finalist are envisaging winning at least one of the two domestic trophies.

“Les Astres are after a trophy, it will be nice to see us become Cameroon champions, to compensate for our investment and long years of work. We have been given the necessary, we just need to produce results. We have put in great work this year, I believe we will be champions this year,” says Kamga Emmanuel, the President of Les Astre de Douala.

Considering their late start, the Brazilians of Bepanda will have two training sessions a day, in order to ensure their readiness for the season which starts on September 30th.
