Cameroonian forward Danny Namaso continued his fine run of form in Ligue 1 as he struck the opener in Auxerre’s 2-2 draw away to Rennes on Sunday, marking a confident return from international duty with the Indomitable Lions.
Namaso, who was part of the Cameroon squad during the international break, showed no signs of fatigue as he put Auxerre ahead in the 8th minute, coolly finishing a quick counter-attack to notch his second goal in four league outings.
Rennes responded strongly, with Breel Embolo equalising before Amadou Fofana put the home side ahead. Auxerre fought back, and Sinayoko converted a penalty later in the match to secure a 2-2 draw.
For Namaso, the goal underlines a growing maturity in his game since moving to France. His work rate, strength in transition, and composure in front of goal have made him one of Auxerre’s key attacking outlets this season.
The result leaves Auxerre mid-table after eight rounds, while Rennes missed a chance to close the gap on the top six.
Namaso’s form will be encouraging news for Cameroon coach Marc Brys, who will be relying on the forward’s versatility and directness in attack ahead of next month’s World Cup qualifiers.
Auxerre next host Clermont Foot, where Namaso will look to continue his scoring streak in front of home fans.
