Brandon Fossi has completed his move to Canon Sportif de Yaoundé, joining the historic capital club on a two-year contract from Mankon United FC after an impressive campaign in the North West Regional League and the National Interpools.
Fossi emerged as one of the standout attacking players in the North West last season, finishing as the top scorer of the North West Regional Championship while leading Mankon United’s attack.
His goalscoring form continued in the National Interpools, where he scored several times and played an important role in Mankon United’s run to the semi-finals of the promotion tournament.
The forward’s performances attracted interest from several clubs, including Coton Sport of Garoua, but it is Canon Yaoundé who have won the race for his signature.
Fossi also enjoyed a memorable campaign in the Back Council FC Interquarters, playing a key role in their title-winning run and finishing the competition as joint top scorer with six goals.
The move now takes Fossi to one of the biggest names in Cameroonian football.
Founded in 1930, Canon Yaoundé — popularly known as the Kpa-Kum — has a rich history both at home and on the African continent. The club has won 10 Cameroon league titles and 11 Cameroon Cup trophies, while its golden era in the 1970s and 1980s established it as one of Africa’s leading clubs.
Canon were crowned African champions three times, winning the former African Cup of Champions Clubs in 1971, 1978 and 1980. They also won the African Cup Winners’ Cup in 1979.
That era produced some of Cameroon’s greatest footballers, including legendary goalkeeper Thomas N’Kono, Jean Manga-Onguene and Théophile Abega. N’Kono won the African Footballer of the Year award twice, while Manga-Onguene and Abega also claimed the prestigious individual honour during their Canon years.
Fossi now joins a club carrying such a rich legacy, with the young forward expected to bring the goalscoring qualities that made him one of the leading performers in the North West last season.
For Mankon United, his departure is a significant loss after his contribution to their Regional League and Interpools campaign. For Fossi, however, the move represents an important opportunity to step onto a bigger stage and test himself against the best in Cameroonian football.
