Christophe Ousmanou’s Cotonsport have suffered a shock exit in the first preliminary round of the CAF Champions following a 0-2 home defeat to visiting AS Real Bamako this Sunday, at the Roumde Adjia Stadium in Garoua.

Goals from Nouhou Cisse and Raye Cisse in each half was all it took for the Malian giants to cause an early exit of the only other Cameroonian club in this season’s CAF interclub competitions.

Both sides entered the contest with equal chances after the goalless draw last weekend in Bamako, though the Cotonites were hoping their home support could give them a slight advantage.

Nouhou shocked the home fans midway into the first segment when he sliced opened the Coton defence to put the visitors ahead.

Though the host dominated the game, Real Bamako defended resolutely and took the advantage to the break.

Against the run of play, Raye scored the second for Real Bamako, benefiting from the huge spaces in behind created by Coton’s push to get the equalizer.

There wasn’t a goal in the final moments of the game, as Real earned the shock but deserved win.

The defeat means a first preliminary round exit for the Cotonites in the last four seasons while Real Bamako advances to book a date with Mauritania’s FC Nouadhibou.
