Cameroon’s Lékié Football Filles begin their maiden CAF Women’s Champions League campaign on Sunday, November 1, with a challenging opening encounter against Moroccan side FUS Rabat in Ismailia, Egypt.
The Cameroonian champions arrive at the continental competition after securing qualification through the UNIFFAC zone, where they finished top of the qualifying tournament in Yaoundé. Lékié demonstrated their attacking potential with an emphatic 7-0 victory over AC Colombe, alongside draws against FC 15 de Agosto and Football Academy Msichana, to book their historic place among Africa’s eight best women’s clubs.
Drawn in Group A alongside FUS Rabat, two-time champions Mamelodi Sundowns and Egyptian representatives FC Masar, Lékié face a demanding route towards the semi-finals. Their opening opponents, FUS Rabat, also qualified as UNAF representatives and will be determined to make a strong impression. The Cameroonians must therefore combine their attacking ambition with defensive discipline as they seek a positive result in their first continental appearance.
Following Sunday’s encounter, Lékié will take on South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns on November 4 before concluding their group-stage campaign against FC Masar on November 7. With only the top two teams advancing to the semi-finals, every point could prove decisive in their quest to reach the knockout stages and extend their historic adventure.
The 2026 edition is the sixth staging of the CAF Women’s Champions League, a competition whose previous five editions have produced three different champions. Mamelodi Sundowns won the inaugural tournament in 2021 and reclaimed the title in 2023, while Morocco’s AS FAR triumphed in 2022 and 2025. TP Mazembe of DR Congo interrupted their dominance with victory in 2024. Lékié now have an opportunity to write a new chapter in Cameroonian women’s club football history as they begin their continental journey in Egypt.
