Stade Malien have booked their place in the group stage of the 2025/26 CAF Champions League after a 2-0 home victory over FC Nouadhibou in the second leg of the 2nd preliminary round, completing a 3-1 aggregate win. The triumph highlighted the influence of Cameroonian coach Mauril Njoya and the attacking brilliance of compatriot Taddeus Nkeng.
Trailing 1-1 from the first leg, Njoya set up his team to control the tempo, emphasizing high pressing and quick transitions. Stade Malien dominated possession early, patiently probing the Nouadhibou defense while remaining compact at the back. The tactical discipline paid off in the 43rd minute when Nkeng capitalized on a perfectly timed through ball to score, giving the hosts a vital advantage going into halftime.
Njoya’s adjustments during the break were evident. He instructed his midfielders to maintain wider positions, stretching Nouadhibou’s defensive lines, which created pockets of space for Nkeng to exploit. The strategy worked to perfection in the 78th minute, when Nkeng’s clever movement inside the box allowed him to latch onto a precise pass and score his second, effectively ending the contest.
Stade Malien’s defensive organization also reflected Njoya’s influence. The team maintained a solid backline, quickly closing down threats and preventing Nouadhibou from gaining any foothold in the game. The combination of tactical awareness, discipline, and attacking flair ensured a comfortable progression for the Malian side.
The partnership between coach and player is now becoming a defining feature for Stade Malien. Nkeng’s clinical finishing complemented Njoya’s tactical instructions, producing a performance that leaves the team well-prepared for the challenges of the CAF Champions League group stage.
