After the termination of the contract of Louis Gasset as the head coach of Cote D’Ivoire senior men’s national team, the Ivorian Football Federation is in search of a new manager to take charge of the team for the remaining matches of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
With a tight Round of 16 clash against holders, Senegal, Cote D’Ivoire is looking at getting one of their former coaches.
According to the French outlet, L’Equipe, the Ivorian Football Federation have contacted the French Football Federation (FFF) to enable the coach of the French senior women’s national team, Herve Renard take charge of the Elephants for the remainder of AFCON 2023.
Renard was in charge of the team when they won the AFCON in 2015.
He has been in charge of the Le Bleues ahead of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup and took them to the knockout stage.
The French coach who is known for his white attire during games remained the only coach to have won two AFCON titles with different teams after achieving the same feat in 2012 with Zambia before winning the 2015 title with Cote D’Ivoire.
The lackluster performance for Cote D’Ivoire in the group stage of the ongoing AFCON 2023 led to the termination of the contract of their former coach.
With another chance of qualifying for the Round of 16 as one of the four best third placed team, the Ivorian Football Federation are not taking any risk in search of a world class coach for the team to enable them get a good finish at the tournament they are hosting.
The ball now lies with the FFF to determine the release of Renard who they also acquired from Saudi Arabia when he contract was still running.
