Vincent Aboubakar is barely ten goals away from eclipsing Samuel Eto’o’s 56 goal feat as the all-time top scorer in the history of the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon. The former FC Porto forward scored one of two goals last Tuesday to take his tally for his country to 46 goals in 108 caps.
The goal meant Aboubakar, unarguably the most efficient striker for the indomitable lions in recent times has narrowed the gap to just ten goals with matches in the Africa FIFA World cup qualifiers to come in March 2025 plus the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) later that year.
The man who has marked the Marc Brys era with most goal contributions as he has scored five goals and assisted one is certainly in with a chance to go all the way.
Marc Brys has trusted the striker despite all criticism with the captain having to play the entire game in most of the encounters.
Many have likened that to a special push for the dark invader to score and break Etoo’s record as top scoring indomitable lion in history which stands at 56.
Samuel Etoo scored 56 goals for the indomitable lions in 118 appearances . Aboubakar has made 108 appearances already with 46goals to show for you and fans anticipate the striker might surpass Etoo.
After surpassing Roger Milla who stands at 43, Cameroonians go into every game ready to countdown on Aboubakar’s tally in reference to Etoo’s record.
Aboubakar made his debut for the indomitable lions in May 2010 against Slovakia at just 18years and scored his first goal in three months later in a friendly against Poland.
With Marc Brys still strongly trusting on Aboubakar for goals, the World Cup qualifiers and AFCON 2025 upcoming, do we see an Aboubakar breaking Etoo’s ten year old record as top scorer of the indomitable lions ?
